Description
This handmade ceramic air plant holder is intended to cheer a friend, brighten your desk, counter, or windowsill. Many of these also make excellent mini vases. This piece of ceramic art was made by hand in my Easthampton, Massachusetts studio.
Process: Each piece begins as a chunk of white stoneware clay. For these air plant holders, I roll slabs of clay on my small slab roller and use clay cutters and cookie cutters to handbuild these mini treasures. I then decorate the bisque fired piece with colored slips and underglazes for a bright and vibrant surface. These decorative pieces are sometimes left unglazed on the outside. They are lined with glaze on the inside and are fired to cone 6 in my electric kiln for durability.
Note: Minor imperfections, variations, and quirks are part of the unique, one-of-a-kind nature of using handmade items.
